Wisdom Teeth Removal in Mount Pleasant, TX

Wisdom teeth usually show up in the late teens or early twenties. Some come in without trouble. Others get stuck, crowd nearby teeth or become infected. We check them early and help you decide what is right.

Signs your wisdom teeth need attention

Call us if you notice:

  • Pain, pressure or swelling in the back of your mouth
  • Red, tender gums around a partly erupted tooth
  • A bad taste or bad breath that won't go away
  • Trouble opening your mouth all the way

Some wisdom teeth cause problems without any symptoms, which is why x-rays at regular checkups matter.

Do they always need to come out?

No. If your wisdom teeth are healthy, fully in, and easy to clean, they may be fine to keep. If they are impacted, partly erupted, or putting other teeth at risk, removal is often the better choice. Your dentist will show you the x-ray and explain why.

What removal day looks like

The area is fully numbed, and nitrous oxide or oral sedation can help if you are nervous. Your dentist removes the tooth, places gauze, and goes over aftercare with you. If a tooth is in a difficult position, we will tell you and help you find the right specialist.

Planning around school and work

Many people schedule removal before a weekend or a school break so they have a few quiet days to rest. We will give you written aftercare instructions and a number to call if you have questions while you heal.

Healing at home

Rest for the first day, bite on gauze as directed, and use cold packs for swelling. Eat soft foods, and avoid straws, smoking and spitting for the first few days so the blood clot can protect the socket. Call us if pain gets worse after the third day, or if you have a fever or swelling that keeps growing.

Common questions

At what age should wisdom teeth be checked?

Teens and young adults should have them checked with x-rays at regular visits. Spotting problems early often makes treatment simpler.

How long is recovery?

Most people feel much better within a few days. Full healing of the socket takes longer. Your dentist will give you aftercare instructions for your case.

Can I be sedated for wisdom tooth removal?

Yes. We offer nitrous oxide and oral sedation. With oral sedation, you will need someone to drive you home.

What is dry socket?

It happens when the blood clot in the socket is lost too early, exposing bone. It causes throbbing pain a few days after removal. Call us if you think you have it.
